Market Intervention Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Market Intervention - Essay Example The prime argument for the initiation of minimum wages has been the removal of economic disparity. As it has been observed time and again that the poor workers have been deprived of the minimum facilities and benefits by the employers all over the globe, the concept of minimum wages aimed to end the economic oppression. United Kingdom has not been an exception either. It was in the year of 1999 that the government of United Kingdom (led by the Labour Party) introduced the minimum wage. The initiation of the ‘National Minimum Wage’ is considered as one of the most significant interventions by the government in the labour market. The other major party of the United Kingdom, the Conservative Party which opposed the minimum wage previously in 1991, also vouched for the cause since 2005. The major objective of the minimum wages has been the rise of standard of living of the working class of the society (Center for Economic Performance, â€Å"Policy Analysis†). Prior to the implementation of minimum wages, the concerned quarters of the industry speculated that the installation of minimum wages might reduce up to two million of jobs alone in the market of United Kingdom. It was so predicted because it was estimated that the employers will reduce the number of posts as they would have to pay minimum wages for any new employment and therefore, they would rather try to extract more work from those who already have higher wage. But the various research reports prepared in the subsequent years proved such speculation to be impractical as there was no reported news of spillover. The implementation of minimum wage proved to be extremely beneficial to the female workforce of the United Kingdom. Also, it was observed that the implementation of such wage structure contributed to increase of wage for about 5% to 6% of the workforce of the United Kingdom during the initial years.

How Cell Phones Have Influenced The Media

How Cell Phones Have Influenced The Media It is not unfathomable that a 7th Mass Media may appear sometime in the not too distant future. This new mass media is the mobile phone or as some call it, the cell phone. With around 84 percent of American adults owning a cell phone, cell phone usage has already penetrated deep into our society. It is reported that two-thirds of cell phone users also use other features including texting, e-mailing, web browsing and apps (software applications that allow them to play games, access web content and access media or data). Only a third of Americans now use their cell phones just for making phone calls (Domain-b). CellularHYPERLINK http://www.articlesbase.com/computers-articles/how-cell-phones-have-changed-our-lives-432849.html HYPERLINK http://www.articlesbase.com/computers-articles/how-cell-phones-have-changed-our-lives-432849.htmlphones have had a major impact on our lives and the way that we perform everyday tasks. Many of these changes are apparent, while others we may not even be aw are of (Anonymous).A cell phone is the only universal gadget because the need to communicate is more powerful than the need to compute, to be entertained or to be informed (Ahonen 1). With a cell phone we get all of these things wrapped into one little neat device that fits right in our pocket. The cell phone is not the dumb little brother of the internet, nor the dumb tiny screen version of TV. Yes, the cell phone is small, but it has attributes that make it a superior medium in many ways and a dominating media channel in the three most important factors reach, audience accuracy and money (Ahonen 6). What Ahonen is saying is that while small in size, the cell phone will have a huge impact on mass media. The power of the mobile phone as a mass media is six elements not available on previous mass media. (1) The phone is the first truly personal media. A 2006 survey by wired revealed that 63% of the population does not share the phone even with ones spouse, it is that personal. (2) The phone is always carried. A survey in 2005 by BDDO found that 60% of the population sleeps with the phone physically in bed; a Nokia 2006 study found that 72% of us use the phone as our alarm clock. (3) The phone is the first always-on mass media, today many media offer alerts via the phone, what is on another real time media like TV, such as CNN breaking news alerts via SMS. Probably the most important, is that (4) the phone has a built-in payment mechanism. No other media has a built-in payment mechanism, even on the internet you have to subscribe to PayPal or provide a credit card, etc. But already today, older media collect payments through the phone. TV shows from Big Brother to American Idol earn bi llions via SMS votes. Perhaps the most novel phenomenon is that (5) the phone is a creative tool available always at the point of creative impulse. The camera phone (which is also our video recorder and podcast recorder) is in our pocket, always at the ready to snap images and clips. User-generated content is radically altering the media world as seen at YouTube etc. And (6), mobile is the only mass media with near-perfect audience information. Where most print are sold on newsstands and even subscriptions do not tell who in the household consumes the periodicals, and TV and radio rely on Nielsen ratings and similar audience estimates, the internet promised accurate audience measurements. That proved to be a false promise, as firewalls, shared PCs, multiple accounts, removed cookies and users deliberately falsifying their info have proven. But on cellular networks, every individual phone user is identified uniquely, across the billions of phones worldwide. Having a pre-paid account (voucher/pay-as-you-go) does not diminish the unique identification of every phone. Thus mobile for the first time offers near-perfect audience data (Ahonen). Mobiles are an integral part of our lives so much that many of us cannot remember a time without them. To have a mobile has become second nature and we are generally never separated from them we eat, breathe and, yes, even sleep with our mobile phones making them the most private and personal accessory we own today. And yet, there is still a lack of understanding about how mobile can be a powerful, complimentary mass media. It can be boiled down to two key differentiators: 1) mobile is interactive; and 2) mobile has unique features including SMS and MMS. These differentiators create something that no other media can the ability to respond to, initiate and maintain a dialogue between those wanting to communicate, whether they are family and friends, colleagues, or brands and advertisers (Ahonen, Foreward). Like the internet before it, today the phone can replicate everything the previous six mass media can do. You can consume newspapers, read magazine articles, listen to radio and podcasts, buy MP3 songs, watch TV, even watch whole movies on the phone. Any web content can be consumed on the phone, and the phone easily supersedes the interactivity of the web, because e-mail and IM are already on the phone, but SMS and MMS messaging are unique to mobile. Nick Wiggin, the head of the Mobile Marketing Association, says: The mobile phone will be the red-button technology of the future it will enable interaction with broadcast media, be that radio, posters or TV. Mobile is the media glue that links different communications solutions together (Bonello). These days people are all about portability we want to get news, listen to music, and even watch some of our favorite TV shows all on the go. Mobiles are an integral part of our lives, so much that many of us cannot remember a time without them. To have a mobile has become second nature and we are generally never separated from them. We eat, breathe and, yes, even sleep with our mobile phones, making them the most private and personal accessory we own today(Ahonen). The future will be even more mobile. We will be connecting more people, devices, pets, plants, etc all via mobile, not via the traditional internet or television or any other technology (Ahonen and Moore 55). Mobile is a simple solution for many people to simplify their lives and how they choose to get their information. Will cell phones phase out more traditional media such as print media, Television and Radio? This is still uncertain but largely people own twice as many cell phones as TV sets, there are three times as many cell phone subscribers as internet users, and four times as many cell phones as Personal Computers. Advertising, news, TV, internet giants, social networking and even Hollywood movies and printed books are now rushing to capture their share of this 7th mass media (Ahonen 1). Through about six decades of continuous evolution, the mobile phone has retained its relevance to the life of the modern man. At every stage in his growth curve, it has undergone metamorphosis, adding features and functionalities that make it even more indispensable. It started as an extension of the landline; a bridge between the home and office landlines. It found relevance in the need of the modern professional to remain in communication in and out of home or office, at play, in the car, at lunch and anywhere else. The mobile phone has since moved up from this simplistic role to become more actively involved in the way modern businesses are conducted (Awe). How has mobile changed news media? How many people get their news has largely changed. First was radio, then television, and then came the internet. So where does the cell phone fit into all of this? The cell phone is a valuable tool for both obtaining news and capturing it live. Chicago even has its very own 9-1-1 video call line where citizens send images from their cell phones to the police department if they witness a crime has been committed. The images from 9-1-1 callers will allow authorities to analyze emergency situations more objectively, says Jose Santiago the executive director of the citys Emergency Management and Communication. They also can be used as evidence in a criminal case, he said (Main). Portable news via a personal cell phone is accessible to the public 24/7 wherever that specific person may be; this has made news on the go a likely choice for anyone with a cell phone who wants to keep up with what is going on in the news. Nearly half of American adults say the y get at least some of their local news and information on their cell phone or tablet computer according to a survey by the Pew research center (Purcell, Rainey, Rosenstiel, and Mitchell). How we get our music is also changing due to the mobile phone. In adapting to an age where the passion for music, particularly among the young and the young at heart, has risen to obsessive proportions, mobile phones have largely become music devices. There are mobile phones on the market that are anything between a radio transistor and an MP 3 player. There are many that can give almost the same music experience as traditional music devices. Apart from downloading music for listening pleasure, mobile phone users can also download any music of their choice as ring tones (Awe). Music was the first content type to emerge as paid downloaded content to mobile phones 11 years ago. Today mobile is a giant new market opportunity for the music industry. (Ahonen 46). With so many changes and advancements in technology these days it is not surprising that music and how people get and listen to their music has transitioned as well. The portable music revolution has been with us for only a few y ears according to an article in Wired Magazine online, but we may see a slow transition from a standard mp3 player to a cell phone when it comes to music access and playback. This change will not be driven by cell phones that act like MP3 players, dishing out music that must be organized by the user. It wont even be about software that streams your own music to your phone. Instead, the next great thing in music technology will be cell phone applications that replicate the experience of listening to interactive, customized radio stations at a computer (Buskirk). According to Buskirk, interactive radio on your cell phone can replace your mp3 player. Most interactive radio services such as Pandora, Flycast, and AOL radio have free and paid versions for getting access to your music. Of course not everyone will automatically throw away their standard mp3 players in favor of this option. One of the downsides to accessing music via cell phone is that the music is streaming online so if you have no signal, then you have no music. Accessing music with our cell phone will become a viable option and will continue to grow in popularity but it will not totally replace other more traditional methods. Books are also transitioning. In fact, while items like the Amazon Kindle are popular portable reading devices, there is another portable device some others prefer, the cell phone. A growing number of people are getting their book fix via mobile phone. It is considered a more convenient method over the dedicated e readers available. The idea of downloading a book to a device you already own is most appealing to those on a budget or to those who simply do not want to carry something extra around all the time to access their books (Kharif). In this technology-enamored nation, the mobile phone has become widespread as an entertainment and communication device that reading e-mail, news headlines and weather forecasts, rather advanced mobile features by global standards, is routine. Now, Japans cell-phone users are turning pages. Tens of thousands of Japanese cell-phone owners are poring over full-length novels on their tiny screens. You can read whenever you have a spare moment, and you dont even need to use both hands, says Taro Matsumura, a 24-year-old graduate student who sometimes reads essays and serial novels on his phone. Such times could be just around the corner in the United States, where cell phones are become increasingly used for relaying data, including video, digital photos and music( Associated Press). It has also been noted that cell phones may be more important to the future of publishing than dedicated e-reading devices. Whereas in the US dedicated devices such as the Kindle, Nook, and iPad get most of the spotlight, these devices have been slow to make it to the rest of the world and so most people elsewhere read on their mobile phones. Since mobile phones tend to be considerably less expensive than e-book devices, in the developing world they are far more likely to be owned for other purposes already (Meadows). Using cell phones for internet access is also very popular these days. Although most people still access the Internet on a computer, the use of mobile devices to check e-mail or browse the Web is growing, outpacing even laptops in some markets, according to a new study (Associated Press). What is media convergence in relation to cell phones? Convergence is the process where several media channels come together to exist and operate in synergy or rather in harmony. A media convergence is basically seen in every persons cell phone, glance down at your palm and there sits a device that can click a photograph, edit and modify the same and also send it like a mail. Some people like to define media convergence simply by stating it to be a merger of mass media and communication outlets. In some cases multi utility of the same gadget or some media was also attributed to be a media convergence (K). By virtue of it always being with you, the mobile phone is the most personal of devices. Let us look at the following questions: How many of us have personal pictures on our mobile phones? (It holds our precious treasures) How many of us keep personal appointments or reminders on our mobile? (Like a personal assistant) Is our mobile phone used for an alarm? (We go to bed and wake up with it) Does our mobile phone serve as a GPS? (Gives directions helps us get to where we need to go) There are many uses and most importantly many personal uses for a cell phone because we are busy, always running around either for work or for home the mobile device has grown in importance , and continues to do so. Marketers know this and so does everyone else in the world. They want to interact with us as close to that moment of want as possible. That moment when we see something and we want it! They want to have a hand in creating that moment for us. Marketers, merchandisers and everyone else want to interact with us as much as possible and wherever we find ourselves. The mobile phone allows the message (whatever that may be) to reach us wherever we find ourselves. For many of us, where they find our mobile phone they will most likely find us! Thats why media convergence is taking place at the mobile phone. Not because of the phone but because of us (HC). Blogger Cdauphin states in his blog on Open Salon about Media Convergence and the smart phone: As an avid cell phone user I find that my use of the computer, a past necessity, seems to have gone downhill. Different mass media being converted into the newest technologies has been going on for decades, however I find that the technologies of the smart phones many of us use today has really taken this to a new level and opened up a whole new way of accessing as many media portals in one small device. So much of my life can now be found in this little device that fits in my pocket that my Internet, television and even book usage has gone down significantly. As a daily news addict I have not only changed from reading the newspaper to watching it on television, but now I get an alert on my phone from BBC News every time there is a new breaking story. Being interested in the happenings around the world no longer takes any effort- my phone does the work for me (Cdauphin). Mobile advertising is the next big thing according to an article in the Economist, last year spending on mobile ads was $871million worldwide. At the moment, most mobile advertising takes the form of text messages. The 2.5 billion mobile phones around the world can potentially reach a much bigger audience than the planets billion or so personal computers. The number of mobile phones in use is also growing much faster than the number of computers, especially in poorer countries. Better yet, most people carry their mobile with them everywheresomething that cannot be said of television or computers. Yet the biggest selling point of mobile ads is what marketing types call relevance. Advertisers believe that about half of all traditional advertising does not reach the right audience. Less effort and money is wasted with online advertising: half of it is sold on a pay-per-click basis, which means advertisers pay only when consumers click on an ad but mobile advertising through text message s is the most focused: if marketers use mobile firms profiles of their customers cleverly enough, they can tailor their advertisements to match each subscribers habits. While it is true that mobile phones have helped us connect and make changes in how we get our information on a day to day basis, there are also conflicting views on whether or not this is a good thing. Though cell phones can be wonderful, liberating tools of communication, freeing us from the confines of an office, and providing more leisure time, they often do the exact opposite. Cell phone use has blurred the boundaries between work and non-work time, increasing stress and tension within families and between friends. As Noelle Chesley, assistant professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, explained in a report on CBS News, The question of blurred boundaries may become an irrelevant one for the next generation of workers, spouses, and parents because they cannot imagine life any other way. As Slate commented in his Adbusters essay, It seems the more connected we are, the more detached we become(Dangl). One of the greatest disadvantages of the cellular phone i s the fact that we do not talk to strangers when traveling anymore. In the past, several people waiting for a bus would engage in a conversation while they were waiting. People who traveled the same routes every day might develop friendships along the way. This situation does not happen anymore. Today when people are waiting for a bus, they just pull out their cell phones and speak with old friends, missing out on the opportunity to make new ones. In large cities, many people do not know their neighbors, even though they may have lived in the same neighborhood for years. As a society, we are beginning to lose the face-to-face contact that was such an important part of our lives in the past. Cell phones are a great asset in aiding in our everyday lives. However, you should remember, however, to hang up every once in a while and pay attention to the world around you (Anonymous).

The Most Popular Dance Genres Essay -- zumba, classical ballet

Dance is a universal expression. People can easily tell stories or express how they feel through this form of art. Just like an instrument, dancing is how a dancer makes music. In general dancing has changed throughout time. How we dance now is not how it was done in the fifties and sixties. Like music dance evolves according to what is popular. Something is constantly being added to all of the different genres of dance. Although there are many different styles of dances in the world, there are some that are more popular: Zumba, Ballet, Salsa, and the most popular, Hip Hop. Zumba is a dance craze that has become popular in the last few years, bypassing other genres of dances that have been being done for centuries. What is Zumba you ask? Well Zumba, Spanish slang for buzz or move fast, incorporates hypnotic Latin music with easy-to-do moves that leads to a dynamic and effective workout program. This is the reason to why Zumba has become so widespread, it’s fun, easy and it benefits your health in a major way. The way you do Zumba is by attending a Zumba class. There you are taught by an instructor different moves along with other women from ages thirteen to seventy years old. You can also buy the workout DVD’s and shake off your pounds in the privacy of your home. Like other dances it’s a combination of other genres of dances, mainly Latin or Spanish dance moves mixed with a little bit of hip-hop. This fun dance was an accidental discovery way back in 1986 by Alberto Perez. Perez was teaching an aerobics class in Santiago de Cali, Colombia when he used his personal music to teach class instead of using his normal music. Even though he did this back in 1986 this form of aerobics didn’t become popular in America until 2002. Today ... ...rrow. Each and every individual has their own personal favorite genre of dance weather it is Zumba, ballet, salsa, or hip hop. They all are just to express yourself so go out and enjoy dancing! Students Reflective Analysis Applied Management Project Writing Process Education Essay

In the broadest sense brooding analysis is the study where pupil ‘s contemplations on the AMP ( Applied Management Project ) composing procedure, the pupil ‘s sensed public presentation, outlooks, and lessons learnt can be expressed. This is based on treating the cognition and feelings during and after the completion of the thesis instead than merely merely looking at the past events and recapping everything without supplying any analysis. However, in order to go a brooding scholar the qualities that are basically needed are unfastened mindedness and committedness to alter by recognizing personal prejudice. Contemplation on the work done is a critical accomplishment to be learnt that may be easy applied in future life state of affairss whilst working or transporting out some undertakings. By looking back and critically analyzing the events that took topographic point merely so you can measure your work and place the countries in your personality that demand betterment. Acerate leaf to state that brooding study would be uncomplete without acknowledging the failings and supplying the drawbacks as the experience from the undertaking is non expected to be perfect. Additionally, it has to be mentioned that this brooding analysis study non merely includes personal experiences and the accomplishments learnt from the undertaking but it besides includes lessons that can be applied in the future undertakings. Hence, this indicates that contemplation is the nucleus of a womb-to-tomb acquisition procedure as merely by analyzing the experiences we can larn from them.Remembrance of ExperiencesThe experiences from this undertaking can be easy compared to the rollercoaster with the outlooks, the temper every bit good as enthusiasm invariably traveling up and down. To get down with, the aggregation the subjects itself was the experience that did non go forth me apathetic. This was preceded with the expectancy and the anxiousness that the subject of our group would be interesting ne'er minding the fact that it might be hard one. The outlook was to acquire interesting subject. The rubric of the subject received was ‘The Feasibility of Selling to the World ‘s Poor by the Multinational Organizations as a Means of Poverty Alleviation ‘ and it was met with the content from the group members intending that it is a good, interesting and really relevant subject to the group members as some of them come from hapless African or Asiatic states. However, my primary ideas about the subject were non every bit positive as I would hold imagined they would be. However, the following twenty-four hours was spent reading the given articles and brainstorming as it was suggested by the coachs and it proved to be of great value. This enlightened me as I started to understand more about the subject and the demands of the undertaking. This enabled me to try to place the possible purposes and aims of such subject that could be set to be achieved in AMP undertaking. Additionally, in order to keep the records of the events and for better, more in-depth contemplation maintaining the notes of specific occurrences, experiences or thoughts that came into my head allowed me to look at them subsequently with the different position and to critically measure in order to understand what I have learnt from those experiences. This suggestion by the lectors to maintain notes proved to be really helpful in order to reflect on the experiences and learn from them. Apart from maintaining the journal of the events for the brooding analysis, separate journal was created for literature reappraisal which was the chief portion of the undertaking. As in my old studies I ne'er used to maintain a journal of different studies, articles, books that are needed in order to compose the study. This was done merely by taking all the relevant stuffs and analyzing them at the same clip instead than maintaining the notes of the beginnings. Due to the enormousness of this AMP undertaking maintaining the journal of mention beginnings was indispensable portion of the literature reappraisal in order to use them expeditiously at the phases of composing the undertaking. Generating separate worksheet and spliting the columns into four parts ( beginning, writer, page, sum-up of information ) allowed me to easy track the beginnings in the literature reappraisal subdivision of the undertaking. It non merely enabled me to be more organized but more significantly it proved to be clip salvaging activity. Another major portion of AMP undertaking that required developing peculiar scheme was creative activity of selling program for selling to the hapless. This seemed to be particularly hard undertaking as there is more literature available about assisting the hapless through assorted assistance organisations instead than selling to the hapless as a mean of poorness relief. This different attack to poverty relief was initiated by the transnational companies merely in recent old ages therefore the handiness of good beginning stuff on this affair was instead scarce. This factor created the feeling of defeat. However, alternatively of seeking to happen published stuffs the determination was made to seek on the web sites of big transnational companies and to seek for the information about poorness relief undertakings that they are set abouting. This enlightenment provided me with legion instance surveies and studies from the web sites straight and suggested the possible market and merchandis e that could do great impact in poorness relief in hapless countries. This is when the important determination about the feasibleness of selling irrigation pumps to the hapless in Africa was made. Having decided on the merchandise that I believed to be of paramount demand in African states I had to happen the state that this merchandise will be sold in. After long hours of research into the most suited market the determination was made to sell irrigation pumps in Uganda where state has adequate rainfall during the twelvemonth and adequate lakes and rivers but the husbandmans are non able to capture and use this H2O in field irrigation, therefore, holding over 32 million of cultivable land laying untapped. This seemed as perfect merchandise for their market in order to spread out the concern and relieve the poorness. Having examined the cardinal phases of the AMP development the following portion of the study provides the feelings and experiences during and after each of these stages with the designation of the lessons learnt.Personal Feelingss and Learning from the ExperienceAs it has already been mentioned AMP experience was ne'er stable during the whole procedure. Personally, I saw this subject as ill-defined and instead hard as I did non cognize a batch about the NGOs or other assistance organisations in poorness relief procedure non even adverting the fact that I would hold to move as a adviser for the transnational company that aspires to sell to the hapless in order to relieve poorness. Not merely I felt confused about the subject but worried every bit good. Thus, after reading legion subjects sing poorness relief the assurance and exhilaration returned to me. However, the exhilaration about the subject diminished as I began to understand the wideness of the subject. However, this experien ce is positive as it demonstrated that in the hereafter the things should be expected with a more realistic attack and taken more carefully. The undertakings that ab initio appear either hard or easy may non be as they seem to be one time you start reading relevant stuffs. This foremost required broader reading around the subject country and brainstorming while researching. Merely so it was possible to construct a more realistic attack and cut down the possibility of undertaking failure every bit good as to understate the emphasis degree that was received due to miss of apprehension. After reading legion articles and diaries I learnt how to choose chiefly the beginnings that are relevant. Due to huge handiness of secondary informations ( journal articles, authorities studies, instance surveies, researches, etc. ) on the issues of poorness and poorness relief some of the articles seemed to be relevant judgment from the rubric whilst the information inside the article was non truly relevant to the subject given. Therefore, this needed to develop effectual method of choosing the right articles. After reading several articles I noticed the form of the articles that are relevant and the 1s that are non. The usage of CRAP ( currency, dependability, authorization, intent of the beginning ) trial suggested by the University of Bedfordshire librarian Peter Godwin helped greatly in choosing the right beginnings for the undertaking. Besides the accomplishments mentioned above I distinguished more of them that I learnt while making this undertaking: Self direction and motive. As thesis is unsupervised undertaking unlike the undergraduate thesis this allowed me to larn from this experience the ways to self manage and actuate myself by giving some wagess to myself after each phase of thesis was complete and on clip. Team effectivity. This is indispensable accomplishment that I have learnt as it is the footing of the success in squad work. The ability to work efficaciously within a squad has helped me a batch in seeking to happen solutions to assorted issues and is greatly appreciated by the directors in future employment. This besides showed that the ability to portion the cognition within a squad is invaluable. In add-on to this, I learnt to work efficaciously in a group in a clip constrained state of affairs. Problem work outing. Having faced with assorted jobs during AMP such as clip direction, motive, etc. allowed me to understand how good I can get by in the unplanned state of affairss in the hereafter. Planing and organization/Project direction accomplishments. This is the accomplishment that I acquired in the initial phases of the undertaking and proved to be non merely utile but clip economy every bit good. Always seeing myself as instead organized individual during AMP undertaking I learnt the ways to better these accomplishments ( note pickings, clip direction ) . Furthermore, I learnt how to be specific and efficient by stipulating the country of the survey and puting the boundaries. In this sense, planning and organisation is really valuable lesson for future undertakings. Self analyzing and rating. This is closely connected to self direction and motive as it is the accomplishment which demonstrates how good one can concentrate on the undertaking and work systematically to accomplish set ends. Furthermore, the ability to measure the success in the undertaking is indispensable portion of any undertaking. The country of self contemplation appeared to be rather new to me as I seldom tried to measure my old undertakings These the nucleus accomplishments carry important function in the future undertakings every bit good as employment because the employers look how you adapt the accomplishments that you province you have in different state of affairss. In brief this undertaking taught me: Better clip maintaining pattern. Better note pickings and summarising pattern. Better acquisition and group work pattern. All this gives valuable lesson which will be really utile at ulterior old ages in life while working on some undertaking in the company or merely working with some people that are from different background. Besides prove that sharing the thoughts is valuable.Group Dynamics and Learning from the ExperienceThis experience turned into good acquisition pattern as sharing cognition among the group members provides the ability to analyze the affairs from different position. Then you can reflect on what you where chiefly believing about the subject and what you think now after the group meetings and compare how this cognition has changed. I ever thought that single studies or undertakings have to be done on single footing significance that you merely see composing down merely your personal ideas or thoughts. But by making so I may be disregarding the thoughts of the others as they might believe in wholly different manner and would non accept my thoughts. Therefore, the first phase of AMP un dertaking as being group work has given really valuable lesson. I became more cognizant of the benefits of sharing the thoughts among group members. Given that most of the group members come from different civilizations and different backgrounds it implies that with different degrees of cognition allow the thoughts to be shared and reflected upon from many different positions. Team work was non something wholly unfamiliar to me as we managed to garner really difficult working group members since the first talks of Postgraduate surveies. This has proved to be really dedicated and difficult working group in many occasions when fixing group works. Therefore, without any vacillation the same group was formed for AMP undertaking with the add-on of other 4 member as the groups had to be of formed of 8 people. Even though we still were in our little group of 4 that we have known each other for about a twelvemonth, we were able to broaden our heads with the other group members. This turned out to be even more productive than we thought because all the other 4 members were from Africa, therefore, the issues of poorness were their mundane life back place. In this sense, the determination has been made to concentrate on the states of Africa so that we would be able to hear from the primary beginning the effectivity or non effectivity of assorted assistance organisati ons in African states. In this sense, they were able to portion of import information about the poorness relief in Africa and the methods that work and the 1s that do non. Furthermore, we were able to hold really productive treatments because for most of us the things that we thought were true turned out to be merely superficial imitation of poorness relief and normally enduring for some short term. This enable us to reflect on the thoughts that we ab initio were traveling to discourse in our undertaking and to explicate the purposes and aims in a better manner. In this sense we were able to oppugn the given stuffs better and with the more existent to life position. This is because the research was based simply on the secondary research and we could non travel to Africa transport out the research and see what methods work and what do non so the possibility of holding group members who come from African parts was truly honoring for our group. In add-on to group work group kineticss was non something that we have ne'er encountered before as we had legion undertakings prior to this 1. However, in this group due to it being larger and due to the importance of the undertaking it was possible to detect the behaviors that were non seen before. Some group members felt demotivated, others felt scared of the importance this undertaking was transporting. Therefore, more statements and fluctuations of thoughts could be observed as compared to smaller group that we had before. Hence, some group members thought that it is better to work on their ain and non to listen to the assortment of sentiments. But for me personally group work ever was and ever will be the set where I can larn from the others and I can portion my ideas with the others as good. I seldom relied merely on my personal sentiment when it comes to making undertakings or studies, therefore, I was ever seeking for person that I could portion my thoughts with and to acquir e some different penetration while hearing other individual ‘s sentiment. This is for a really simple ground. If 9 people are stating one thing and one is stating another it is really improbable that those 9 people can be incorrect. Even if there are instances that we had conflicting thoughts group work allows to come up with some sort of solution that is normally suited for everyone. However, to be a successful member of the group is ne'er easy as you have to oppugn yourself invariably whether you contribute sufficiently, whether they see you as a valuable member of the group or whether you gain more from the group work instead than being on your ain. Chapman ( 2006 ) in his surveies states that group work is one of the most of import factors in today ‘s society as this proves to do work more efficient and increases productiveness. This thought is farther elaborated by Brodbeck and Greitemeyer ( 2000 ) proposing that the interaction within the group allows to develop new thoughts every bit good as to critically measure the bing 1s. The possibility to portion the thoughts and complement on each other has ever attracted me as this allows me to larn something new, to rectify myself if my perceptual experiences are incorrect and to portion my cognition with the others. I have ever seen the group work as a better manner to success in comparing to single work. In add-on to this, Forsyth ( 1999 ) supports the thought of group work instead than members working individually.Lessons for Future UndertakingsDespite the fact that I have learnt legion lessons while transporting out the undertaking there are still certain countries that need to be improved and applied in future undertakings or group activities. These can be suggested as followers: Open mindedness to the thoughts and suggestions expressed by the group members. Accept the unfavorable judgment and learn from it. Better clip direction. Improve consciousness of contemplation on the events. These are the activities that I personally found disputing to accept and alter my attitude towards them. Therefore, they are the 1s that I will try to better in future undertakings.DecisionsAs this study suggests the brooding analysis of the events and experiences is the key to life larning procedure as it allows acquiring deeper penetrations into the experiences and bettering on them. This brooding study non merely included the events that took topographic point while set abouting AMP undertaking but it besides revealed the failings of my personality every bit good as provided with some valuable lessons for the future undertakings. The first subdivision of this study presents the assorted phases of AMP whilst other subdivisions provide with the lessons learnt and the personal feelings at every phase of the undertaking. Besides reflecting on my personal experiences this study besides gives the contemplation on group kineticss as group work was one of the initial phases of the underta king. It has been suggested that group work is perceived as more productive attack to work leting to portion the thoughts among other members of the group. Overall, this study suggests that set abouting AMP undertaking was a really practical experience which awarded with legion lessons for the future undertakings.

Analysis on the Autography of Benjamin Franklin Introduction Benjamin Franklin is among the most outstanding mentors the American society has in history. Coming from an average middle-class family, Benjamin rose to become one of the most famous and admired personalities in the world. Benjamin starts his autography as a letter and message to his son of the anecdotes of his life and family members. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Analysis Of The Autography Of Benjamin Franklin" essay for you Create order In the second phase, his choice of words and use of language are meant to be more educative and form a perfect example from his own life (Franklin, 1981). The later parts of the autography are centred on details that are of particular interest to the history of America. Franklin outlines the utmost importance of recounting the major historical occasions that happened under his watch. This essay will give an in-depth analysis of the eighteenth-century America according to Benjamin Franklinrs autobiography. Also, the write up will outline and discuss the changes to society, culture and politics as portrayed by Franklin. Eighteenth-Century America Through the autography, Franklin portrays a colonial state where there was free economic mobility. As he begins to outline the escapades that led to his first job, Franklin talks of how he escaped to Philadelphia as a seventeen-year-old teen and started working in printer shops. He explains how he was displeased by the jobs just after a few months and wanted a job that was better paying and had better terms of service. He later met Governor Sir William who convinced him of traveling to London. However, on getting to London Franklin was disappointed as what he had been promised was not the case forcing him back to Philadelphia. Franklin hints to us that the eighteenth century was an era of reason. The age was characterized by inventions and a collection of several other scientists. By the then inventions, the populace was convinced that perfecti on in life was attainable and also had the illusion that no single problem was enormous enough for technology not to handle it. Also, from the autography, one can deduce that the period was not sufficiently educated as Franklin was on the frontline sensitizing the need for educating women, especially in accounting. More so, Franklin insisted that Latin should be taught in schools as the least important language as opposed to then, where Latin was second from English. However, Franklins picture of the American people and nation are a personal account of what transpired by then, and not everyone had his life. Moreover, Franklin describes how America contributed to the India and French war. In this context, he greatly criticized the massive contributions to the war made by the government from taxing it citizens (Cain Hopkins, 1986). In one such occasion, he was the governmentrs spokesperson in highly sensitive and publicized testimonial case in parliament where he outlined that the government was paying soldiers and facilitating the war. Again, after his return to Pennsylvania, Franklin helped in the organization of a local militia group that was able to counter the attack of The Paxton Boys (an organized group that underestimated the Pennsylvania government in protecting them against the raids from American Indians). Changes in the Eighteenth Century It is during the eighteenth century that the religion theology had popularised and preachers emerged. However, the content of the ministers and ministry was more often misguided and away from the original content and objective. On top of that, the middle eighteenth-century colony population was by far wealthier than their forefathers. This prosperousness was associated with the spirit and grace of God. Through the religion, the people gained value for themselves and changed their perspective of viewing things and circumstances. Religion taught that hard work pays off and if one did what was right and avoided offending God, they would have nothing to fear. Religion by then had a way of frightening the congregation and the offering them an escape by accepting the salvation (Young, 1998). However, things rapidly changed and the precedence given to religion is preoccupied with science and technological inventions (US history, 1995). Through his autobiography, Franklin provides a glimpse of how the American colonies used art, print, fashion, and ideas to have an identity that was unique and somewhat different from the British counterparts. The colonial land had gained fame and with it came great challenges such as the unconditional religious obedience. However, religious liberty was later obtained from which the cries and woes for independence and freedom came (Clarke, 1988). Of more interest is the religious plurality and diversification that was achieved and is still in place today. Each colony had developed its own culture and practices. This effect was due to the absence of a constable and stable transport system which was worsened by the uncorrelated nature of the political powers between the colonies (Greene, 1969). Actually, one may find it hard to differentiate between the European culture and some of the American cultures as they had significantly deviated from each other but were more similar to the Eur opean culture. However, the colonies became more united and integrated by the circumstances and situations they were facing as a result of the economic issues. The consumer practices of the colonies were also similar which meant that the tough economy and frustrations were experiences across the board (Robbins, 2004). These challenges changed the culture of the colonies and integrated them to a more similar one that had incorporated the practices of several of the colonies.

World Hunger And Global Environment In Haiti - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1360 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/06/14 Category Science Essay Level High school Tags: World Hunger Essay Did you like this example? Haiti is one of the top countries that suffer from world hunger. Haiti is a country located in the continent of the Caribbean and itrs an independent state with a population of roughly 10 million people. Worldwide, one person in every eight experiences hunger due to lack of food and millions of people die of hunger (Rofles 663). The global environment development can lead to hunger and pollution if people arent sustainable. The three major reasons why Haiti is one of the top 10 world hunger country is because of poverty and overpopulation, natural disasters and political turbulence. The environment can either feed people or damage food production. Agriculture is the primary sector of Haitirs economy but the major problem is soil erosion from weather conditions and water scarcity. Arabica coffee is where they get most of their money, following cacao because itrs known to be less damaging during natural disasters and they get may more profit. The challenges for energy is significant and 75% of the population relies on biomass like charcoal and wood fuel as an energy source, whereas others have sufficient access for machinery use. Using less energy helps with air and water pollution, climate changing and much more, which benefits the country. The amount of fuel that takes for ships to transport food and supplies contributes to greenhouse gases and climate changes. Access to water is difficult in the country and worsens with weather conditions. Contaminated water has been a concern because of waterborne illnesses from droughts that later causes cholera, lea ding to death in most cases. When shipments get imported, it has been identified from the locals that many food goes to waste, which is tragic because many people are unnourished and dying. Food goes to waste because of shipment delays which contributes to food expiring and rotting. Sustainable solutions for Haiti depends on who gets involved and helping lead change. Many organizations and volunteers help with supply food, clean water, shelter, and emotional support overall. They work with areas that have been affected dramatically and teach them techniques of what to do in emergency situations. Food production depends on the environment and the peoplers actions to be sustainable. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "World Hunger And Global Environment In Haiti" essay for you Create order The worldrs population keeps going up each year in the poorest countries, which makes it more difficult to keep up and provide more food. The population of Haiti is roughly 10 million people and more than half of the population live in poverty or below poverty line. The amount of water and food decreases because of population group which puts people in a famine. Malnutrition leads to persistent hunger and therefore, can lead to nutrient deficiencies and overall growth failure. Food insecurity affects most of the population and without being well nourished can lead to birth defects, learning disabilities, mental retardation, impaired immunity, blindness incapacity to work, and premature deaths, iron deficiency anemia, maternal deaths, preterm deaths, low birth deaths, infections, and premature deaths (Rofles 671). Chronic malnutrition keeps being the problem from children causing them to have reduced physical and mental development. (Meds Food for Kids) The insufficient intake of vitamin B, D, E and iron lead to these deaths and many diseases. Many mothers have no food for their children and also those who are pregnant are at risk because of the insufficient nutrients and minerals needed for their body and throughout their pregnancy. Malnutrition is the major issue in childhood development following that is death. Roughly 22% of children under the age of 5 have stunting and about 10% are underweight. Most of the children in Haiti have kwashiorkor and marasmus and can easily be spotted. In many pictures I came across, most children have a swollen stomach or visible ribs. The rehabilitation process for them is a peanut butter medicine which puts children back on track with vitamins and nutrients but takes several weeks for that to occur. Ready-to-use therapeutic food helps children gain weight and be more active. According to Food for The Poor, 67 of every 1,000 children will die before age 5, men live up to age 61 and women until age 66 (Food for The Poor). Nature disasters can affect many people, food, plants and animals. Haiti has always suffered from natural disasters like flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes and much more. The most recent natural disaster that happened was Hurricane Mathew, which hit on October 2016 as a Category 4. This hurricane was the third strongest to hit the country. Around 1,000 people were killed by the hurricane and around 700 were missing people. Most of the agriculture and housing were destroyed which leaves them unable to produce food or feed people; therefore, it leads to a continuous hunger cycle. Haiti is known for their agriculture including: cassava, plantains, bananas, corn, yams, sweet potatoes and rice. Most of these foods have fiber, iron, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium which is sufficient nutrients and minerals to survive and prevent diseases. After the hurricane hit, they were faced with food insecurity, while already having minimal food resources and of cours e making it even more worse. After two weeks of the hurricane, the outbreak for cholera started. Cholera is a disease in the small intestine from consuming contaminated water with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. The overflowing of rivers with dead bodies and pool of water is what creates contaminated water and higher risks for diseases. The World Health Organization helped donate around 1 million vaccines for cholera. Shelters are limited in the country, so not many people had access, so the ones who didnt have access went to the areas where less damaged occurred. Thankfully, Haiti has organizations and volunteers, mostly from the United States that help with food assistant, provide money to build roads and homes, and even doctors travel to help with medical care. For example, Hope for Haiti is a well-known organization that donates $0.95 every day to better their lives. Haiti is a free market economy with low labor costs and tariff-free access to the United States for many of its exports and the government replyrs mostly on organizations for their aid (CIA). The food prices this year went up 15.5% making it more difficult for people to survive (Trading Economics). Many families had to separate their children with relatives and be apart from them because they couldnt afford to feed them due to food crisis. The government leaves food to rot under the sun when shipments come in because of the red tape thatrs on the packages. This leads to more starvation and easy access for people to eat dirt or oil. About 75% of the food is imported to Haiti and food being piled up in dumpsters or expired has left more than half of the population undernourished. President of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, had stated that he would raise wages up to 20% but when the day came to increase wages he only raised 15%, which started a riot. The prices that keep increasing in food produ ct and supplies has been the reason for protesting and has led to government resignations. More than half of the people live on less than $2.00 per day and the average income a day is $5.00 for farmers (Chris Herlinger). When prices go up and there is no increase in workerrs wages, there are always riots because it makes it harder for the people in Haiti to survive and mostly those under poverty line. Overall, as a society we need to make global and local changes to prevent the consequences for hunger. Haitirs inability to feed their own people due to poverty and overpopulation, natural disasters and political turbulence leads to food crisis. Organization who have contributed and keep contributing to the country have helped and changed many peoplers lives in many different aspects. The global environment can either provide many food for people or reduce the amount of food production; this depends on how cautious a person is with eliminating sources that are harmful for the environment or simply limiting those sources. A personrs action may influence other people over time and also inviting a group of people to join you and help Hunger-Relief Organizations can make a difference. The whole idea is to spread the word about helping those in need and making a change in the environment.

Essay about The Effect of Video Game Violence on Youths

Does exposure to violence in video games, on TV, and in social media have an effect on those exposed to it? Are those who are underage more susceptible to any detrimental side effects from viewing these things? This has long been a topic of discussion among lawmakers, psychologists, and the scientific field as a whole. It concerns parents and community members, especially in the wake of a seeming rise in violence at school from bullying, fighting, or in the extreme cases of school shootings. Media use, and subsequent exposure to violent content is extremely prevalent among 8 to 18 year old children who spend, on average, 7.4 hours a day using media or computers and 80% of teens have some type of gaming console(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero) These claims and the amount of media children are exposed to were concerning enough that the American Academy of Pediatrics started making advisory statements about violent video games and media being health risks for children in 2001.
